Project Scope
To replace the aging 30+ year-old splash park, which had broken water features, hazardous asphalt (cracks and uneven settlement), and multiple CSA safety violations.
Objectives
- Design and construct a new, CSA-compliant splash park, built with high-quality materials to ensure safety, accessibility, and durability for 20+ years
- Integrate a modern, water-efficient recirculation system that reduces waste while maintaining a fun and interactive play experience.
- Create a vibrant, inclusive community space that encourages social connection, active play, and longterm public enjoyment.
Challenges
- Potential flood risks and high water table due to the park’s riverside location.
- Following time-sensitive First Nations archaeology protocols to respect and preserve the known impact site.
- Meeting Interior Health Authority (IHA) water quality standards, provincial permitting requirements, and Department of Fisheries regulations.
- Adhering to strict budgeting practices to ensure responsible use of public funds.
- Carefully working around mature heritage trees to protect their health.
Solutions
- Upgrade to a state of the art recirculating water treatment system, allowing 500 gallons of continuous play while minimizing water loss to less than 1% per day, ensuring sustainability and responsible water conservation.
- Construct a CSA-compliant splash park with modern, interactive features designed to offer a safe, engaging, and long-lasting recreational space for the community.
